Brenton Barnes, a sophomore at Sequim High School, was recognized on Jan. 19 as the Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club’s Career Technical Education student of the month.

He was joined by his mother Sherry and Robotics Club faculty adviser Bradley Moore, who nominated Brenton.

Moore told club members that Barnes is a clever, intuitive and industrious student who can easily visualize solutions to problems. Moore also noted that Barnes helps other students understand difficult assignments in a manner that helps them accomplish the goal.

Barnes was part of the Sequim Robotics Federation team that competed at the FIRST Robotics Competition in Houston, Texas, last summer. The international contest included about 400 teams from 33 countries around the world. Barnes also plays on the Sequim High tennis team.

Barnes says he plans to attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma after graduation in 2020, enroll in a computer engineering program and eventually open his own custom computer company.
