Irrigation festival calls for artists

Now is the time to submit an application to the 123rd Sequim Irrigation Festival Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair, held May 5-6. This year, the May 4 First Friday Art Walk serves as a Sequim Patron Preview.

The Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair emphasizes reusability, repurpose and recycling; however, any vendor who creates quality, hand-made craft products and fine art will be considered. This is a juried show and all submissions are judged on overall quality.

Application packets are at IrrigationFestival.com on the Innovative Arts and Crafts event page. Application review and jurying will begin Feb. 1 and continue periodically through April 6.

Hear ‘A Little Romance’

The Sequim Community Orchestra hosts “A Little Romance,” their winter concert, at 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. Admission is free, though donations are accepted. The concert featuring composers of the Romance era.

The orchestra will also perform an original composition by Kate Powers, the group’s first Concert Master, who will perform as soloist for the piece. Refreshments are provided following the performance. See www.sequimcommunityorchestra.org.

Sweethearts dance set at Elks Lodge

Round Trip breaks out the sentimental favorites from 55 years of great music for a Sweethearts Dance set for 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at the Sequim Elks Lodge. The $10 cover charge includes special treats.

Grammy-nominated singer to peninsula

Singer/bandleader Karrin Allyson visits the Olympic Peninsula for a concert set for 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave.

Allyson boasts a jam-packed career with Concord Jazz — thirteen albums, five Grammy nominations and a recent self-produced holiday album, “Yuletide Hideaway” that won four stars from Downbeat. The New York City native spends two days out of three on tour, playing the major jazz festivals, concert venues and clubs of the U.S. and making repeated tours overseas.

Tickets are $15-35 (youths 14 and younger are $10) and are available at Joyful Nise Music in Sequim, Port Book and News in port Angeles and online at jffa.org.

Heart by Heart coming to 7 Cedars Casino

Two of the original founding members of Heart — bassist Steve Fossen and drummer Mike Derosier — bring their rock group Heart By Heart for a concert at 7 Cedars Casino in Blyn on Saturday, Feb. 17. The 21-and-older show has no cover charge and begins at 9 p.m.

Kicking off Feb. 3 in Oregon and running through the beginning of summer, the Heart By Heart tour brings back favorites from the multi-platinum selling band, including “Barracuda,” “Crazy On You” and “Alone.”

“We don’t consider ourselves a ‘tribute band’ but rather the second generation of Heart,” Fossen said.

Derosier and Fossen are led by vocalist Somar Macek along with guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Lizzy Daymont.
