More than 60 golfers took to the greens in late July to battle for bragging rights and for a cause.

The third Bob Cup charity golf tournament, held July 28 at The Cedars at Dungeness, saw 64 participants and a host of volunteers work and play to raise money for a permanent home for Clallam Mosaic, a nonprofit working to empower individuals with special needs.

Between sponsors, registration fees, mulligans, silent and live auctions, BBQ attendees, raffle tickets and open donations, the tourney raised more than $20,000, organizers said last week.

Three Clallam Mosaic participants — Michael Rief, David Carver and Carr Brackett — demonstrated their golfing abilities during the 18 holes of play. Sporting his recently won Special Olympics regional gold medal, Brackett and his partner and father Randy Brackett, were among the teams competing for the Bob Cup.

The tournament was good practice for the state-wide tournament at the Snohomish Golf Course, where the Bracketts will play on Aug. 22.

“People met up with friends, made new ones, and fondly remembered Bob Duncan, the tournament’s namesake, all while raising funds for Clallam Mosaic,” said Randy Brackett, who is also president of Mosaic’s Board of Directors.

The event was a success thanks to the generosity of Alaska Airlines and a number of local community sponsors, including: Don Bell and Jeff Bell, Berneking Concrete Homes, Blake Tile & Stone, Brother’s Plumbing, Cole’s Jewelers, Edward Jones, Frank Catelli, First Federal, Haley MacFarlane Const. Inc., H2O Plumbing Contractors, Juan de Fuca Cottages, Kalo & Don The AFLAC Guys, Kirsch Electric, Koenig Subaru, Les Schwab, Mariners Cafe, Mark McHugh Real Estate, Oak Table, Sean Clift Mortgage Co., Seven Cedars Casino, Sound Community Bank, Steve Gish Attorney at Law, and Wilder Auto.

“We exceeded what we made in 2017 and know the event will continue to grow year on year as the word gets out,” said Mary Jane Duncan, organizer of the tournament. “And we added the mulligan option this year for $20, allowing players to throw or kick the ball if they’re in a tough spot, which quickly became very popular.”

Throughout the day there was an array of on-course challenges like closest to pin awards, put a ball in the boat on the pond at hole No. 17, and the popular “Putt for Wine” on the practice green.

As the teams finished their play, another 30 people joined in the fun of the auctions, raffles and barbecue.

The 2019 Bob Cup Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 27.
