• Aug. 23

Take a trek down south to explore neighbors Brinnon and Quilcene. Explore camping, boating, scuba diving, fishing, bird-watching, shopping, eateries and more; see www.emeraldtowns.com. • Aug. 24

Experience some native culture on the Olympic Peninsula at the 94th-annual Makah Days, set for Aug. 24-26, when members of the Makah Tribe of Neah Bay gather and reunite with the members who have since moved away, to commemorate thousands of years of the Makah ancient culture and the anniversary of becoming citizens of the United States. They welcome everyone to join as they celebrate with neighboring tribes from Washington state and First Nations members from Vancouver Island in Canada. www.makah.com/activities/makah-days

• Aug. 25

To celebrate National Park Service’s 102nd birthday, Saturday, Aug. 25, is a State Parks “free day” when a Discover Pass is not required to visit a state park; check out activities or just enjoy a beautiful summer’s day at Sequim Bay, Fort Worden, Fort Townsend, Dosewallips or Bogachiel state parks. www.parks.state.wa.us/842/Olympic-Peninsula-Region

• Aug. 26

If case you were busy Saturday, check out day two of the annual Olympic Peninsula Air Affaire on Sunday, Aug. 26. Held at the Sequim Valley Airport, the fest features antique plane exhibitions, hot air balloon rides, helicopter rides, remote control aircraft, aerial demonstrations, food and music for the whole family. • Aug. 27

Take it easy for the afternoon; grab a bite from a local eatery and enjoy a picnic (remember those?); prime spots include the overlook at John Wayne Marina (north side parking lot), the beach at Port Williams and Dungeness Landing County Park in Sequim, and Crown Park (off of West Fourth Street) and the City Pier in Port Angeles.

• Aug. 28

Catch a glimpse of the Salish Sea’s majestic orcas. Tours depart from Port Angeles (Island Adventures, www.pawhales.com) and Port Townsend (Puget Sound Express; www.pugetsoundexpress.com) daily.

• Aug. 29

Break out the cameras and snap some pics of the peninsula’s majestic waterfalls. Check out Marymere Falls near Lake Crescent, Madison Creek Falls off of Olympic Hot Springs Road (much of the road is closed but there is some limited parking at the falls’ trailhead), or Sol Duc Falls (accessible by Deer Lake Trail). www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit
