Sequim City Council member Brandon Janisse recently received a Certificate of Municipal Leadership from the Association of Washington Cities.
The association’s certificate recognizes city- and town-elected officials for accomplishing training in four core areas: roles, responsibilities and legal requirements; public sector resource management; community planning and development, and effective local leadership.
The program is designed to “enhance the ability of elected municipal officials by providing knowledge and skills to effectively operate within the law, plan for the future, secure and manage funds and foster community and staff relationships,” city officials said. The courses help mayors and council members learn the essentials of municipal service and improve their ability to work with council colleagues, city staff, and citizens, they said.
To earn the certificate, the official attends a variety of Association of Washington Cities-sponsored municipal workshops.
Janisse was elected to the city council and has served since January 2018. He serves on the city’s Finance Committee, as a liaison to the City Planning Commission, and as an alternate to the Clallam Transit System Board.
