Milestone: Skwim Toastmasters named a President’s Distinguished Club

Skwim Toastmasters was recently named a President’s Distinguished Club, the highest possible Toastmasters achievement that recognizes the club’s membership growth and educational achievements during the club year that ended June 30.

Through self-paced educational programs, Toastmasters shed their fear of public speaking while gaining organizational and leadership skills that help them progress in their professional and personal lives, members say.

“The Skwim Club is an example of Toastmasters at its best,” said Mike Marion, immediate past Director of District 32, which includes more than 100 clubs in Western Washington and Alaska.

“The ten new members (Linda Christensen, Jeff Tingelstad, M.E. Bartholomew, Gigi Marunde, Cyrrah Gunia, Jeffrey Clinton, Susan Scott, Nancy Osier, Terraleen Burnham and Sheryl Lamb) have seen what Toastmasters can do, and are starting the journey to meet their own goals.”

Sequim’s club members earned eight educational awards last year. Rich Proctor, Terry Barrett, Lindy MacLaine, Kyle Hall and Heather Reseck earned Competent and Advanced Communicator Awards for completing speeches in the Toastmaster program.

Skwim Toastmasters meets 7-8:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the Gathering Place in Sunland, 135 Fairway Dr.

The public is welcome to visit meetings. Initial membership fee is $20 plus dues — $51 for six months, payable in September and March.
