Skwim Toastmasters speaker to help ‘name’ the New Year
Published 1:30 am Wednesday, January 2, 2019
Skwim Toastmasters announces the resumption of their 2nd Tuesday Featured Speaker Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at The Gathering Place in Sunland, 135 Fairway Dr.
Features speaker Terry Barrett will present “New Year, New Way: Name Your Year.”
Barrett quit setting New Year’s resolutions about 25 years ago. Instead, she named her year. It worked so well, she’s been doing it ever since.
“I’d just been through a year of intense struggle,” Barrett said. “As I looked back, I knew I didn’t want more of that!”
Barrett said her experience told her she would go on experiencing more of the same unless she focused differently.
“I already believed that words and thoughts have the power to affect our daily lives. I needed to aim in a more constructive and positive direction. The following year became the year of ‘Progress.’”
During her presentation, Terry Barrett will share some of the surprising and gratifying outcomes she’s enjoyed over the past 25 years as a result of naming her years. She’ll guide her audience in a process to name their coming year.
Barrett has bachelor of arts degree in interdisciplinary studies and a masters degree of divinity. A mom who said she loves to learn and to teach, she is completing her teaching certificate working at Sequim High School.
The event is free and open to the public. Preregistration is requested due to space limitations; register online at NewYearNewWay.eventbrite.com.
