Women vets invited to conference
Veteran Community Partnerships and VetConnect are hosting a conference for women veterans 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, April 12, at American Legion Post 26, 209 Monroe St., Port Townsend. Featured speakers are the director of the Washington Department of Veteran Affairs and a representative of Veterans Administration Health Services. There also will be a panel discussion on “Networking with your community after service.”
The conference is free to women vets, $10 each for all others. Registration is required at www.eventbrite.com.

Thrift shop to open Saturday
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s thrift shop at 204 W. Bell St. will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 6. Featured this month are early spring fashions for all, a unique wood wrought iron buffet, a dining table with chairs, handbags and jewelry, kitchen appliances and dishware, and more. Kid’s Fishing Day coming up
The Annual Kid’s Fishing Day is scheduled from 8 a.m.- 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the pond on the north side of Carrie Blake Community Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., Sequim.
All youths 14 years of age and younger are invited to participate. No fishing license is required. Kids are allowed to keep two fish each. Worms and power bait will be available and a fish cleaning station will be provided. The event is sponsored by the Puget Sound Anglers North Olympic Peninsula Chapter.

Holistic health fair set for Saturday
Awakening Natural Awareness, a Sequim-based nonprofit organization, hosts a free Holistic Health Fair from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Guy Cole Event Center at Carrie Blake Community Park, 202 N. Blake Ave.
The event will feature local healers, health practitioners and speakers every half hour on a variety of health- and wellness-related topics.
The group’s mission is “to enhance individual and community health consciousness by exposing and further educating the public on the wide array of methods related to healing the body and mind.”

Learn about county’s water quality
Dr. Darlene Schanfald, who has been working on sewage waste issues for nearly two decades, will make a presentation “Once It Goes Down the Drain, Where Does It End Up?” from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at John Wayne Marina, 2577 West Sequim Bay Road, Sequim. The talk focuses on the quality of the water in Clallam County and is sponsored by the Sequim Bay Yacht Club.

Exploring tidepools
Tidepool Explorations Class, an eight-week opportunity to learn about the marine life of the Olympic Peninsula that starts Wednesday, April 10, is set at the Feiro Marine Life Center, 315 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.
Classroom sessions incorporate anecdotes, illustrations, lecture, question-and-answer and hands-on interaction with Feiro’s exhibits. Alex Hirsekorn, a lifelong saltwater enthusiast and Feiro naturalist for about 20 years, teaches the course. Also included is a two-hour guided field trip to Salt Creek Recreation Area to explore tidepools.
Cost is $30 per person.

Center Valley Animal Rescue hosts a pet vaccination clinic for low-income community members starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 US Highway 101, in Gardiner.

Law enforcement camp open to juniors, seniors
Washington high school juniors and seniors with interest in law enforcement careers have an opportunity to spend a week this summer learning about the roles and job opportunities within law enforcement.
Applications currently are being accepted for the 42nd-annual Washington State-Kiwanis Youth Law Enforcement Camp, to be held at the Washington State Patrol Academy in Shelton from July 28-Aug. 2.

The application deadline is May 10.
Camp organizers seek to allow selected students a chance to explore various job opportunities in the law enforcement field. Students are given a hands-on experience on the WSP drive-course and tactical firing range and will get to work with forensics, SWAT, communications, K-9 and other police functions.
