She may have seen her senior prep career end a bit early, but Hope Glasser plans on continuing her athletic career at the next level.
As it turns out, that won’t be far from home.
Glasser recently signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Peninsula College in Port Angeles for the 2020-2021 season.
“I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do soccer or basketball (in college),” Glasser said, “I love (Peninsula) coach (Alison) Crumb and her program. I went to a few of her practices. She’s super competitive and want to make you the best player you can be.”
A first team all-Olympic League selection, Glasser averaged 10.8 points for the Wolves in 2019-2020, as Sequim went 10-2 in league and finished 17-7 overall.
She also starred on the soccer field, earning an all-Olympic League first team selection after tying for the team lead in goals (eight).
Head coach Alison Crumb announced the signing of Glasser and Neah Bay’s Cei’J Gagnon on April 13.
“I’m so excited to bring these two kids on board; they are both very athletic, and very high character kids,” Crumb said.
“I can’t wait to coach them and have them be a part of our Pirate Family. I love having great local players to be apart of our program and I’m so excited for the next two years with these incredible student-athletes.”
Glasser was prepping for her second season on the SHS track team — she qualified for the district meet in discus and javelin in 2019 — before the statewide school closures amidst concerns of the novel coronavirus spread.
“I was definitely pretty upset (about losing the track season),” she said. “I wanted to come back and take it way more seriously.”
Glasser’s athleticism was a draw for college coaches; she noted she received several offers to compete in track or multiple sports.
In the end, she decided to stay close to home and still to the basketball court.
“I can work and live at home and be saving more money at the same time,” Glasser said. “I definitely get a lot of family support.”
Glasser’s signing means Sequim High has two players hopping it up in Pirate gold and black: Nate Despain plays for the PC men.
