PC’s Studium Generale fall series to kick off

Studium Generale will open its Fall Quarter series with the traditional Welcome Celebration, a partnership among the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and Peninsula College, set for 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, on Zoom.

The event is free and open to the public.

The event will begin with a welcome from tribal partners who have collaborated to create this annual event, and will be followed by a presentation on Tribal Sovereignty by Gina Steiner, managing attorney for the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe. Clallam burn ban lifted

The Clallam County burn ban was lifted Oct. 1; recreational fires, residential burns and permitted debris burns will be allowed, county fire marshal George Bailey said.

Urban Growth areas, including those in Sequim, Carlsborg, Port Angeles, Forks, Joyce, Clallam Bay and Sekiu, are restricted from outdoor debris burning, through Washington state law.

Outside the UGA, residents should contact their local fire district for burning regulations and permit requirements.

Friends of Library sets monthly sale

The Friends of Sequim Library’s 2nd Saturday sale will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Oct. 9 at Rock Plaza, 10131 Old Olympic Highway.

The group is loaded with merchandise this month, sale organizers say, including a large selection of crafts, needlework books in fine condition, many varied subject jigsaw puzzles (including a large assortment of those for children), DVDs and books of every genre.

All earnings from sales support library programs and the library remodel.

NOLS branches to be closed Oct. 14

All libraries in the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 14, to allow staff to attend an in-service training day.

NOLS locations will reopen on Friday, Oct. 15, for regular curbside and in-library services. WiFi is available 24/7 in all NOLS parking lots.

In-library service is available 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays at Sequim, Port Angeles and Forks branches.
