Roundabout work begins north of Sequim

As construction progresses on the installation of a roundabout at the Woodcock Road and Sequim-Dungeness Way intersection, traffic is anticipated to alternate from one side to the other through mid-April with minimal delays, if any, Clallam County roads staff said. Construction started Nov. 8 at the corner of Woodcock Road and Sequim-Dungeness Way on unincorporated Clallam County’s first ever roundabout.

Crews with Interwest Construction began work just east of the planned 160-foot roundabout on Monday, with Clallam County roads staff previously saying traffic will move to one side or the other as construction progresses and no long-term traffic delays anticipated.

Nick Dostie, project engineer and lead inspector, said work will tentatively run 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, through April 14, 2022.

The project could finish sooner or be delayed depending on weather and/or COVID-19 conditions, he said.

Interwest’s contract was agreed upon by Clallam county commissioners for up to $869,000 with funding covered by federal and state grants. They approved a roundabout in 2019 to lessen traffic collisions.

A proposal to install a traffic light was estimated to cost about $4 million, so county officials opted for the roundabout.
