Sequim keeps Arbor Day tradition with park planting

The collection of beautiful plants and trees in Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 W. Washington St., continue to grow in part thanks to the City of Sequim’s annual Arbor Day celebration.

Parks crew members with help from members of the Sequim Prairie Garden Club, who oversee maintenance of the park, and Mayor William Armacost, planted an approximate 20-foot Himalayan cedar tree from New Dungeness Nursery on Nov. 19.

Armacost read a proclamation about Sequim’s efforts as a “Tree City USA” through the Arbor Day Foundation. This was Sequim’s fifth year hosting a planting event.

Ty Brown, Sequim operations manager, said the tree does great in the Pacific Northwest and the area around it will be landscaped along the west side of the park in the coming months.
