PC names new president
Dr. Suzanne Ames, vice-president of Instruction at Lake Washington Institute of Technology in Kirkland, was named the next president of Peninsula College, Board of Trustees Chair Mike Glenn announced on April 22.
“Dr. Ames has worked her entire career preparing for this opportunity and we could not be more pleased she will be the next President of Peninsula College,” Glenn said.
“Her open, collaborative leadership style and commitment to teaching and learning will be a great asset to the college community.”
Ames will begin work approximately July 1, and replaces Dr. Luke Robins who assumed the role in 2012.
She previously served as Associate Vice President of Instruction at Lake Washington Institute of Technology.
Ames earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership for Change from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, Calif., a master of business administration degree in marketing from City University in Seattle and two bachelor of arts degrees (in communications and political science) from the University of Washington in Seattle.
‘Science Stories’ on tap at Stadium Generale
The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (PAFAC) is celebrating “Science Stories” through May 29, and Peninsula College’s Studium Generale will be co-hosting a unique celebration of this exhibition, set for 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, via Zoom.

Jane Carlin, Lucia Harrison and Peter Wimberger will be featured speakers during the hour-long, online presentation.
Science Stories is a unique project that brings together 16 Pacific Northwest scientists and 22 book artists to create engaging and unique artists’ books that offer new ways to interpret science and to tell a story. PAFAC divided the Science Stories projects into broad topics: water, ice, mountains, flora/fauna and human health.
Carlin is the director of the Collins Memorial Library at the University of Puget Sound. Harrison is a visual artist and faculty emeriti at The Evergreen State College. Wimberger is an evolutionary and conservation biologist at the University of Puget Sound and directs the university’s natural history museum.

Marine weather workshop in PA
Learn to read the weather before heading out on the water at a Marine Weather Workshop, set for 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Port Angeles Yacht Club, 1305 Marine Drive.
Co-sponsored by the Washington Sea Grant, Port Angeles Yacht Club and the Port of Port Angeles, the workshop covers a number of topics, including: atmospheric pressure and wind; coastal winds; daily briefing; fog; getting current weather; global winds; strong wind systems; waves; weather charts, and weather models.
Cost is $30.

Class on nonviolence set at Healing Center
The Natural Healing Center (162 S. Barr Road) hosts a Nonviolent Communication Class from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
Fee is by donation.
Learn one of the most powerful tools for Communication developed by Marshall Rosenberg, organizers say. Attendees will be reading one chapter a week from the “Nonviolent Communication (NVC) Book” and role-playing and practicing this skill. The first 15 minutes will be a short film of Rosenberg about NVC.

Conservation district to host weed control event
The Clallam Conservation District hosts “Less Weeds, More Feed,” a free workshop set for 10:30 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, May 11, at Robin Hill Farm County Park, 141 Dryke Road.
Learn how to identify and control poisonous and noxious weeds such as tansy ragwort, as well as management tips to improve pastures. Attendees are encouraged to bring weeds from their pasture for identification.
Presenters include Cathy Lucero, Clallam County Noxious Weeds Coordinator, conservation district staff. Pre-registration is required. Register at clallamcd.org/2022-farm-workshops.
