Grammy-winner highlights opening festivities at Field Arts Events Hall

Grammy-winning vocalist and pianist Diane Schuur headlines the Grand Opening Celebration of the Field Arts & Events Hall, 201 W. Front St., in Port Angeles.
Tickets for her extended performance on Friday, July 28, as well as her matinee performance on Saturday, July 29, are now available at fieldhallevents.org.
Known for her eclectic style and vocal prowess, Schuur is a leading contemporary jazz musician with a storied career in the music industry. Her musical journey began at a young age, inspired by her parents’ extensive jazz collection that introduced her to legendary artists like Duke Ellington and Dinah Washington.
Nicknamed “Deedles” by her mother, Schuur developed her own distinctive vocal style, blending innocence and bluesy depth in a way that serves the essence of each song.
She won Grammy Awards for best female jazz vocal performance in both 1986 and 1987 and has had three other Grammy nominations.
For her 70th birthday tour, Schuur has curated a special music program that reflects her life and career, featuring a selection of songs from her vast catalog. For “Diane Schuur at 70: An Evening of Song And Stories,” she weaves together blues, straight-ahead jazz, gospel and genre-defying tunes.
Founders Circle Donors and Patrons who have contributed to the Field Hall capital campaign are invited to a special pre-show cocktail reception at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 28, during which they will be able to watch the dress rehearsal for BANDALOOP vertical dancers.
In addition to Diane Schuur’s performances, the opening will feature the Grammy-winning quintet Ranky Tanky, known for their Gullah-inspired jazz, and Unit Souzou, a fusion of Japanese Taiko drumming and dance. On Saturday, attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy free vertical dance performances by BANDALOOP and local performers on the outdoor community stage.
