‘Pawsome Night’ on tap for PFOA fundraiser

Join Peninsula Friends Of Animals (PFOA) for “A Truly Pawsome Night,” a benefit dinner for the PFOA rescues, from5-8 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at Fox Bell farm, 137 W. Barr Road, Port Angeles.

The event features entertainment from features Amanda Bacon and Todd Ortloff, a dinner catered by Sunshine Café and a silent and live auction.

Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at Full Moon Candle Company, 601 W. Washington St., and Port Book and News, 104 E. First St., Port Angeles, as well as at PFOA.

PC offering community education classes

Community members are invited to enhance their skills and enrich their lives with Peninsula College Community Education courses this spring.

The college offers a variety of non-credit classes from figure drawing to project management. Join classes in person or online for new classes such as Growing Mushrooms at Home, A Beginner’s Guide to Herbalism, Office Automation with Python, Excel Pivot Tables and more

4-H fundraiser set

A 4-H Bunkhouse Breakfast fundraiser is set for 8:30-11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Clallam County Fairgrounds’ Home Arts building, 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles.

Cost is $15 (cash only) and includes pancakes, eggs and sausage links or biscuits and sausage gravy and eggs. Both choices come with coffee, tea or juice.

Youths can earn up to $1,400 toward college or trade school tuition in the 4H noncompetitive scholarships.

Guide Dogs group seeks volunteers

Sequim Puppy Raisers with Guide Dogs for the Blind hosts an informational meeting for potential sitters and raisers at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28 in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave. Raisers receive puppies when dogs are 8- to 10-weeks old from California and train them for about a year before sending them for further training at the Guide Dogs for the Blind facility in Boring, Ore. If they pass the four-month, eight-phase program, the dogs can be matched with a visually impaired partner on-site.

County encourages hazard plan survey participation

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office’s Emergency Management Division is looking to keep current on its Clallam County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan — a federally-approved plan that examines the region’s vulnerable hazards identifies ideas and thoughts on projects to prepare and mitigate the danger to the community and reduce damage to infrastructure.

The department is seeking input through a community survey found at clallamcountywa.gov/HazardSurvey2024. Or, go to the county website (clallamcountywa.gov), click on “Latest county news” and then on “Survey – Clallam County Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan Community Survey.”

Input is a vital part of the successful development and completion of this plan, county officials said. The community survey will be available until May 10.

Hazard mitigation planning is an important part of protecting the community, county officials said; not only does it allow Clallam County to receive Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding in the event of a disaster, but also lays a plan down on paper as to what should be done in the event of an emergency.

OMC diabetes group to meet

The Olympic Medical Center Diabetes Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, in the Seasons Café private dining room at Olympic Memorial Hospital, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles.

This free support group will feature a presentation about understanding and reading nutrition labels.

Film, discussion series to continue

Port Angeles First United Methodist Church (PAFUMC) recently announced the launch of a public monthly Social Justice Film & Discussion Series, all free and open to all identities.

The second installment to this event series is in honor of Women’s History Month, and will show a 50-minute documentary entitled “Jesus’ Female Disciples: The New Evidence” (2018), from 1-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, at the PAFUMC building, 110 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles. A 30-minute discussion period will follow.

This initiative seeks to confront and address the historical harm inflicted upon discriminated groups including LGBTQIA+, Black Americans and others, by intentionally engaging with thought-provoking cinema and opening space for constructive dialogue within the community, organizers say.

Get free legal aid services

Clallam-Jefferson County Pro Bono Lawyers will present a virtual legal aid clinic, a free program offering legal advice for members of the public. Consultations will be offered via telephone or Zoom from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, April 6.

Legal aid clinics are geared to help those who are financially unable to otherwise access a lawyer. Attorney volunteers will answer legal questions pertaining to civil matters, direct people to local services that might be able to assist them, and to explain the legal process to them.

Once registered, additional directions for the event will be provided. Attendees are also encouraged to have relevant legal documents with them during consultation(s).

Easter egg hunt slated at Elks lodge

The Sequim Elks Lodge hosts its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m. on Saturday,March 30, at 143 Port Williams Road.

All children 11 years and younger are welcome to hunt for eggs. The event will have four age groups: 0-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-11.

Because of nearby road construction, attendees need to us Brown Road to access Port Williams Road.

Lodge at Sherwood to host ‘Tools for Relaxation’

The Lodge at Sherwood Village will host “Tools for Relaxation through Meditation” with guest speaker Dennis Blair at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 25, at 660 W. Evergreen Farm Way.
