Clallam County Fire District 3 firefighters extinguished a brush fire along the 200 block of Mariposa Lane off Hooker Road on July 16.

Battalion Chief Elliott Jones reports that a lawnmower started the fire and firefighters responded shortly before 2 p.m. to a 911 call. When crews first arrived the fire was about one-fourth of an acre in size and grew to about one acre, he said.

Firefighters cut off the fire before reaching an outbuilding and two homes, Jones said.

The fire was considered knocked down at 2:31 p.m. and the scene was cleared at 4:22 p.m., he reports.

Fire district 3 staff wrote via email that the Sequim area has experienced several brush fires this summer with the largest so far a bluff fire started by fireworks on July 5 along East Sequim Bay Road.

A full burn ban also went into effect on July 14 due to dry conditions.
