The caper thriller “Sneakers” will be shown at the Sequim branch library on Friday, Jan. 23.

Out Loud Story Slam is Friday

The next Out Loud Story Slam hosted by Nessa Goldman is set for Friday, Jan. 23 at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave. The theme is “Attitude.”

Ten storytellers from the audience will share a five-minute true, personal story on the theme.

Everyone has an attitude. Some people have great attitudes; others, not so much. Sometimes something doesn’t play out the way you wanted, but all you need to do is change the way you think about it. Maybe you were the Grinch and all you needed was a little Whoville cheer to turn it around.

Storytellers are judged by the audience, but the evening is rooted in the spirit of sharing. Tellers are encouraged to prepare their best stories, with winners earning a spot in a future Grand Slam. Audience members are also welcome to participate anonymously — or simply sit back and enjoy the stories of the night.

If you’re interested in telling, or have been considering it and would like a bit of guidance, reach out to Out Loud Story Slam at outloudstoryslam@gmail.com

Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. in the gathering hall at OTA. Tickets are $15 online at olympictheaterearts.org, or $20 at the door if available. Both cash and card are accepted. Olympic Theatre Arts is located at 414 N. Sequim Ave.

NOLS movie night

A burglar, a spy, a fugitive, a delinquent, a hacker, and a piano teacher — and these are the good guys.

The 1992 caper thriller “Sneakers” starring Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, Mary McDonnell, River Phoenix, Sidney Poitier and David Strathairn is next in line for the North Olympic Library System’s Friday Night Movie program in Sequim.

The PG-13 film will be shown from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23 at the library’s temporary location, 609 W. Washington St., Suite 21.

Martin (Redford) and his group of security specialists are hired to steal a black box but soon realize the job has nefarious and far-reaching consequences.

The library’s Friday Night Movie program is supported in part by the Friends of Sequim Library. Showings are on the fourth Friday of the month.
