2 face homicide-DUI for woman’s death

Two Port Angeles residents will stand trial Nov. 16 on charges of vehicular homicide-DUI for the Aug. 9 traffic collision in Port Angeles that killed Sequim resident Shelly Bartlett.

Roger Dean Mallicott, 46, and Lovera Marjorie Blackcrow, 29, both of Port Angeles, were charged Aug. 17 in Clallam County Superior Court with one count each of vehicular homicide – DUI, a Class A felony.

They each face a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $50,000 fine.

According to court records, Blackcrow allegedly was driving her Ford Expedition under the influence of alcohol on Aug. 16 when she collided with Mallicott’s Harley Davidson motorcycle at Dry Creek Road and Edgewood Drive in Port Angeles.

Mallicott also is alleged to having been driving under the influence.

Bartlett, a passenger on Mallicott’s motorcycle, later died from head injuries received when she was thrown to the pavement. Both Mallicott and Blackcrow were arraigned Friday, Aug. 21.

The cases were joined but, according to court documents, Blackcrow faces a one-week trial while Mallicott faces a two-week trial on the same vehicular homicide – DUI charge.

Mallicott is free on $100,000 bond until the trial; Blackcrow was released without bail.

According to court records, Blackcrow allegedly was driving her Ford Expedition at about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 16. She was northbound on Dry Creek Road and stopped at the intersection with Edgewood Drive to wait for two eastbound vehicles to turn on to Dry Creek Road.

While she was waiting, Mallicott, with Bartlett as a passenger, approached the intersection eastbound on

Edgewood Drive.

Blackcrow allegedly didn’t see Mallicott’s approaching motorcycle and pulled out to turn left onto Edgewood Drive right in front of it.

Mallicott reportedly braked hard and lost control of the motorcycle.

It overturned, ejecting Bartlett, who slid into the right rear of the Expedition. She was taken to Olympic Medical Center with major head trauma and then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she died at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16.

According to the court records, Blackcrow’s blood alcohol level registered .123 on the portable breathalyzer.

She was arrested and booked for DUI and vehicular assault, which was amended to vehicular homicide following Bartlett’s death.

Mallicott was taken to Olympic Medical Center for a blood alcohol test instead of a portable breathalyzer test.
