State Patrol cites unsafe speed in wreck

A Sequim man attempting to pass a car carrying three Brinnon residents lost control of his car and crashed into their vehicle on Sunday afternoon.

State Patrol Officer Marka Segrest said John R. Milford, 21, of Sequim, was trying to pass a car driven by Marlena Stinebaugh, 61, of Brinnon, four miles south of Brinnon on U.S. Highway 101.

He lost control of his Toyota Scion and struck the rear driver’s side of Stinebaugh’s Oldsmobile Bravada, Segrest said. Riding with Stinebaugh were Cheryl Ennis, 61, and Linda Steele, 63, both of Brinnon.

Both vehicles spun out of control and came to rest down an embankment near the southbound side of the roadway. Stinebaugh’s car was half submerged in a pond, Segrest said. Both cars were totaled.

Everyone, including Milford, suffered injuries; all were transported to Mason General Hospital in Shelton by emergency responders.

Milford was charged with driving too fast for the conditions, Segrest said.
