The Rotary Club of Sequim presented checks to Sequim-Dungeness charities at its meeting on July 22.

Rotary community service director Dan Fryer donated $5,000 on behalf of the club to the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, $500 to the Sequim-Dungeness Food Bank and another $500 to the Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic.

“These outstanding local charities help meet real needs for deserving people in our community,” said Sara Maloney, Sequim Noon Rotary president.

Rotary donations come from community participation fundraisers sponsored by the club. The annual Salmon Bake and barbecue – hosted this year at Carrie Blake Park on Aug. 15 – and the recent Duck Derby are the main sources of income for the club.

In addition to the charities listed above, money raised by these yearly events helps support local Scouting and youth activities, provides free dental service for Sequim children, gets free dictionaries to Sequim fourth-graders, awards college scholarships to graduating high school seniors and sponsors the annual Sequim-Dungeness Irrigation Festival parade.

Sequim Noon Rotary meets at 11:45 a.m. every Thursday at Sunland Golf and Country Club. Visitors and prospective members are welcome. For more information, see www.
