SARC names Fitness Challenge winners

Six competitors took home age-group titles in the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center’s first Fitness Challenge on Jan. 29.
Competitors jumped rope, did push-ups and ran two miles, among other events, at the multi-use facility on Fifth Avenue under the direction of fitness instructor Brandon Stoppani.
Linda Allen had the top time of any competitor with 27 minutes, 55 seconds.
Winners include (by age group):
Females
15-34 – Aimee Allen
35-44 – Katherine Beirne
45-54 – Linda Allen
Males
20-49 – Todd German
50-64 – Pete Secak
65-74 – Jan Richardson
The challenge events included the equivalent of 10 floors on the Stepper; 40 repetitions each leg on the 14-inch step-up, with men carrying 60 pounds-plus, women 30 pounds-plus; 40 push-ups, men on toes, women on knees; 500 meter rowing on the Concept II rower; 200 rope jumps; and a two-mile run on the treadmill.
Sponsors included SARC, The Home Depot, Bodystrong Tae Kwon-do, Sunny Farms Country Store, Del’s Feed and Farm Supply, Les Schwab, Radio Shack, Costco and Applebee’s. Volunteer timers, judges and helpers included Craig Fahrenholtz, Robert Kauffman, Jimmy Stewart, Robert Golbeck and SARC board of commissioners chair Sue Sorensen.
