Grange hosts pumpkin party
Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim, invites the public to its annual Pumpkin Party and Country Fair Saturday, Oct. 24. The Pumpkin Party starts at 4 p.m. in the Glenda Clark Memorial Outdoor Kitchen with participants able to pick out and carve a pumpkin of their choice.
The Grange also has arranged for the Clallam County Smoke Trailer to be on the grounds for children to learn what to do during a structure fire.
At 5 p.m. the Country Fair begins in the main hall. Food will be available to purchase in the kitchen and tickets can be purchased for the cake walk and games. There also will be guessing games and face painting.
Hospital guild meeting to feature Grinnell
Jamestown S’Klallam elder, renowned story teller and basket weaver Elaine Grinnell will share tales of her tribe’s culture, legends and myths at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at a meeting of the Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild. Grinnell will interweave tribal drums, artifacts and her hand-woven baskets into her story telling presentation.
Free and open to the public, the meeting will be held in the community hall of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church 525 N. Fifth Ave., in Sequim. A business meeting of the Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild follows Grinnell’s presentation.

Trinity dinner set
A free community dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. The meal includes ham, sweet potatoes, vegetables, fruit salad, desserts and beverages.
Reservations, which are requested to ensure that enough food is prepared, may be made by phoning the church at 683-5367 between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the dinner or by e-mail to dinners@sequimtumc.org.
The church presents the dinners on the last Thursday of each month.
Annual dinner/auction on tap
The 10th Annual Día de Muertos Dinner and Auction will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Masonic Hall, 700 S. Fifth Ave. in Sequim. The event features a vegetarian Mexican dinner, program, music and live auction by Cort and Kia Armstrong, and a silent auction that has unique international items. Wine and beer will be available.
All proceeds go to Mujeres de Maíz Opportunity Foundation, providing access to education to indigenous women and children in Chiapas, Mexico. A $25 donation at the door is suggested.

County dept. promoting proper disposal of syringes
Clallam County Health and Human Services announces sharps, including syringes, lancets and pen needles, can be placed in 2-liter plastic soda bottles, sealed, labeled “Do Not Recycle” and thrown in a resident’s garbage can.
Syringes found in public locations can be turned in to Clallam County Health and Human Services in a plastic bottle for disposal if residents are not comfortable putting them into the garbage.
Report any syringes found in public locations to Clallam County Health and Human Services.
Workshop on parent/teen communication set
A workshop is planned for parents/caregivers/guardians to learn and practice skills necessary to have open communication with teens in your care about values, boundaries, decision-making and being a sexually healthy person.
The workshop is from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 675 N. Fifth Ave., Ste. B, Sequim, and is a free 2-hour program promoting the importance of family communication through Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands.

Garry oaks topic at meeting
The Sequim Prairie Garden Club meets at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at the clubhouse in Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St. The meeting begins with “Restoration of the Garry oak on the Sequim prairie,” a presentation by Bill Wood, retired state wildlife biologist.
Wood will discuss the importance of the Garry oak to the prairie communities, the status of the oak restoration work and the 70 Garry oaks in Pioneer Memorial Park.
The public is welcome to attend this free event. A brown bag lunch and a business meeting follow.

PFOA fundraiser on tap
Peninsula Friends Of Animals invites the community to a dining fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Smuggler’s Landing, 115 Railroad Ave., Port Angeles.
Fifty percent of all proceeds from all menu dinners will be donated to PFOA.
Senior Nutrition menu set
Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed.
