The Elwha Klallam Heritage Training Center invites the public to participate and share at a Thanksgiving-themed open mic session at the Elwha Klallam Heritage Training Center, beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21.
“There are many different views and feelings that surround the Thanksgiving Day holiday for Native Americans, and we want to have a forum where people can share their feelings on this day,” said Brenda Francis, communications manager for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.
Readers include Francis; Heritage Center Manager Suzie Bennett; Makah Tribal member Brandan McCarty; Meri Parker, executive director of the Makah Tribe; and comedic writer Christopher Thomas, a member of the Coeur d’ Alene Tribe.
There also will be a guest appearance via the Internet with Elwha Tribal Elder John Boyd, a faculty member at a university in Indiana.
“We would like to encourage all to participate in this event,” Bennett said. “We are looking forward to hearing the voices of the community.”
