Students Sculpt Sequim’s Birds

Ceramics students flew to great heights in Jake Reichner’s Sequim High School classroom for the BirdFest BirdQuest in April. Students sculpted wild birds for a matching game at 12 local businesses sponsored by the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce Merchants Group. Participants were, from top left, Parker Rossi, ruffed grouse; Brett Wright, long-eared owl; Victoria LaCroix, pileated woodpecker; Miranda Peterson, mute swan family (four pieces); Jake Reichner, ceramics teacher; Dani Barrow, green tanager; Brenna Neal, California quail; Jaimee Montelius, Magellanic woodpecker; Austin Sampson, red-tailed hawk; and front left, Alexa Asselin, bluejay; and Grace Trautman, shoebill stork. Not pictured are Michelle Fuller, tufted puffin; Fred Serrano, mallard. LaCroix, Neal and Trautman received $100 each for being the people’s choices. Four students, LaCroix, Montelius, Neal and Rossi, sold their birds during the event. Sequim Gazette photo by Matthew Nash
