Pioneers picked

Grand Pioneers have been selected for the 2016 Irrigation Festival and are Mamie Faulk and William Blank. Honorary Pioneers are Jo Robb and Milton Lynch.

The Pioneer Association would like to invite anyone that is eligible for the Grand Pioneer or Honorary Pioneer position to contact Dave Knapman. The criteria is: Grand Pioneer: A person born within the Sequim School District currently living in Sequim. Honorary Pioneers are persons who have lived in Sequim for 40 years or more and do not qualify for Grand Pioneer.

 

County planners to discuss shoreline plan

The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Agenda items include a continued review of the Draft Shoreline Master Program.

OMC board to talk budget

The Olympic Medical Center Board of Commissioners hosts a public hearing regarding its 2016 budget at its regularly scheduled meeting at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Linkletter Hall in the basement conference area of Olympic Memorial Hospital.

The hearing includes a presentation by chief executive officer Eric Lewis and chief financial officer Julie Rukstad on operating and capital budgets and a 2016-2018 Strategic Plan Overview, followed by a public comment period.

Meet with Sequim mayor

The City of Sequim Coffee with the Mayor program continues in November. Sequim residents can meet informally with Mayor Candace Pratt, at 8:30 a.m. Thursdays, Nov. 5 and Nov. 19, at Adagio Bean & Leaf, 981 E. Washington St.

The mayor will be at a different published location each month to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask questions, express a concern or make a comment about the city or the community. Contact Pratt at 582-0114 or cpratt@sequimwa.gov.


Guild thrift shop open

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guilds Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St., will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. Featured will be beautiful dishes for holiday meals including a 52-piece set of Spode bone china and 71 pieces of Country French ironstone. Holiday decorations, winter clothing, jewelry, books and furniture are in stock. All white-tagged items will be marked half-price. Volunteers and consignors always are needed.

Sequim grange hosting benefit breakfast

Sequim Prairie Grange will serve a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. Some of the profits will benefit Clallam Mosaic.

In addition to pancakes, the menu includes ham, eggs and beverages. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 10 and younger. The Sequim Prairie Grange is at 290 Macleay Road.

Thanks to the community participation and generosity at Sequim Prairie Grange’s last breakfast, $2,028.22 was sent to the Twisp Fallen Firefighters Fund.


Buy tickets to win kayak

Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church Mens OutReach group is raffling a hand-crafted kayak and all proceeds will be split among the Sequim Food Bank, Sequim Community Aid, Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County and Salvation Army.

Tickets can be purchased online through the church website, dvelca.org or the Facebook page facebook.com/dvlckayak. Tickets are $10 each (plus $2 convenience fee). Or, get tickets at the church office at 925 N. Sequim Ave.


Whiskey Bend Road reopens

The Elwha Valley’s 4.5 mile Whiskey Bend Road reopened to vehicle use Oct. 30. The road had been closed since late 2014 after storm damage destroyed a portion of the road.

Contractors rebuilt and stabilized the slope and constructed a masonry retaining wall to support the 70-foot section of road destroyed last winter.

The Olympic Hot Springs Road also is open, providing access to the Glines Canyon Spillway Overlook and the Boulder Creek trailhead.

The Olympic Hot Springs pools remain closed for health and safety reasons.


Veterans Day concert at 7 Cedars Casino

The public is invited to join in honoring and celebrating servicemen and servicewomen at a special Veterans Day concert featuring Chance McKinney at 7 Cedars Casino, Sequim, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Active military and veterans can enjoy a free home-style buffet from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. in 7 Cedars’ Salish Room.

Tickets, a $10 gift of giving, are available at www.brownpapertickets.com or at the Totem Rewards Club.

Proceeds benefit the Captain Joseph House Foundation, serving Gold Star Families of the Fallen.

Sequim High robotics club hosting fundraiser

The Sequim High School Robotics team hosts a luau fundraiser from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the SHS cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave. The event includes dinner, hula dancers and a silent auction.

Education series in PA

First Step Family Support Center offers a free parenting education series that includes breakfast, activities for children and transportation by arrangement.

The program is 9:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Dec. 1 at the First Step Drop-In Center, 325 E. Sixth St., Port Angeles.

Senior Nutrition menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
