A group of homeschoolers in Sequim have until Nov. 15 to make 100 gift boxes to send overseas to children for Christmas.
Kalo Vass, who is teaching a class on giving to the homeschooled children, said the gift boxes are part of Operation Christmas Child, through international relief organization Samaritan’s Purse.
The children will spend the next several weeks filling clear shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, toiletries and other items to send to children overseas so they have a present to open on Christmas, he said.
"It’s hard for a little kid to realize their Hot Wheels car is something another kid on the other side of the world has never even heard of," Vass said.
The group has materials and funds to fill and ship 25 boxes and is seeking donations to help them get to 100, Vass said.
Hygiene products like bars of soap and individually wrapped toothbrushes are especially needed, he said.
It will cost $700 to ship all 100 boxes, he said.
