Health concerns lead Clallam County to close Cline Spit Beach

A high level of bacterial concentration in the water has led Clallam County Health and Human Services’ Environmental Health Section to close the Cline Spit beach.

County officials are advising the public to avoid recreational water contact (swimming and wading) in the waters at Cline Spit County Park.

The beach closure is in effect until retests of the water show satisfactory water quality, county officials said.

The next round of sampling is scheduled for Aug. 30.

Contact with fecal contaminated waters can result in gastroenteritis, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses, officials said. Children and the elderly may be more vulnerable to waterborne illnesses.
