Beta Nu Gives $10K in educational grants

Beta Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International recently presented educational grants to future educators Andrea Tjemsland and Whitney Bigger Okhin, both Sequim High School graduates, who each received $5,000 for their studies leading to teacher certification.

Tjemsland, who studies at Chapman College in California and is in an Integrated Educational Studies Program, plans to get a master’s degree in teaching. Bigger Okhin attends Seattle Pacific University. She is working on her master’s degree in education with a minor in literacy.

Future educator grants are offered once a year to graduates of Clallam County high schools who are now in their junior or senior year of college and have been accepted into a teacher education program. They also are offered to students who have completed an undergraduate program at Peninsula College and have been accepted into an accredited college teacher-training program.

Graduates of a Clallam County high school (or students who have completed a program at Peninsula College in Port Angeles), who are doing post-graduate work for the purpose of obtaining teacher certification, also may qualify. Grants also are awarded to current educators to further their professional development.
