Homeschool band invites new students

Northwinds Homeschool Band host the annual “Come and Listen Day” at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at First Baptist Church, 105 W. Sixth St., Port Angeles.

This event is designed as an opportunity for prospective band members age 9 and older to listen to, handle and observe the musical instruments used in band rehearsals and performances, meet other band students and glean information about participating in the band program.

The Northwinds Homeschool Band is offered at three different levels: beginning, intermediate and advanced. Beginning band starts with the very rudiments of the instrument. Although previous experience with music (such as piano, recorder, guitar, etc.) is always helpful, it is not necessary.

Many of the Northwids Homeschool Band students have been successful with no previous experience at all, band officials say. The beginning class teaches all aspects of reading music notation as a part of the curriculum.
