Learn about, make a comic

Published 2:51 pm Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Celebrate comic book day at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, in the Young Adult area of the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.

Learn some of the ins and outs of cartooning from artist David Lasky, recently named "Cartoonist of the Year" by Cartoonists Northwest. Among his best-known works are a nine-page mini-adaptation of Joyce’s "Ulysses," eight issues of "Boom Boom Comics," two issues of the award-nominated "Urban Hipster" and "No Ordinary Flu" in collaboration with King County Public Health.

Lasky teaches comics classes in the Seattle area.

The library will hand out free comics courtesy of the Diamond Comic Distributing Agency while supplies last, and each participant will go home with a mini-comic of his or her own creation.

All ages are welcome to this special program, made possible by a donation from the Port Angeles Friends of the Library. For more information, call 417-8502 or visit the library Web site at www.nols.org.
