Sequim’s Logan Laxson, a ninth-grader-to-be this fall, finished among the top track athletes in the nation at the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Track &Field Championships in Lawrence, Kan., last week.
Competing in the boys 13-14 division, Laxson started off by placing 17th out of 54 competitors in the 200 meter hurdles on July 26 with a 27.13. Laxson finished fourth in his heat, about 0.57 seconds off qualifying for finals.
On July 27, Laxson took 25th out of 52 athletes competing in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.96 seconds, fifth in his heat and just 0.02 seconds off qualifying for the semifinals.
On July 29, Laxson’s 17-6.25-foot long jump placed him 25th out of 49 competitors.
Laxson earned berths at nationals after top-five finishes at the USATF Region 13 Track and Field Championships in Spokane in early July.
