Lawrence and Betty Kettel of Sequim celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 10.

Lawrence Kettel married Betty Ellis on April 10, 1953, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Port Angeles, then made their home in Sequim.

Larry owned and operated Kettel’s 76 for 30 years and is a former Sequim fire commissioner.

Betty retired as a teacher’s assistant from the Sequim School District in 1991. Previously, she worked as a waitress for many years at The 3 Crabs Restaurant.

Following retirement, they have enjoyed their winters in Yuma, along with time spent with family and friends — golfing and fishing.

In celebration this week, they were to be joined for a day of golf and dinner by daughter and son-in-law Gwen and Bob Sparks of Wenatchee, daughter and son-in-law Pam and Larry Aillaud, and son and daughter-in-law Gary and Dennise Kettel, both of Sequim, along with their nine grandchildren and spouses, five great-grandchildren and extended family and friends.

They are active in Faith Lutheran Church, which they have attended for 65 years. A reception in the Kettel’s honor will held after first service on April 15, hosted by their family.
