Black Press acquires Alaska dailies

David Black, chairman and owner of Black Press, LTD of Victoria, B.C., announced last week that it has agreed to acquire the daily newspapers in Juneau and Kenai, Alaska, from New Media Investment Group.

Simultaneously, Black announced that his company has agreed to the sale of the Akron Beacon Journal to New Media Investment Group.

Sound Publishing, the largest community media organization in Washington state that includes the Sequim Gazette, Peninsula Daily News and Foruks Forum among its 47 newspaper publications, is a subsidiary of Black Press.

Garden shop opens season this week

Jan’s Country Garden recently announced that the business will open its season on Thursday, April 19, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 344 O’Brien Road, Port Angeles.

Customers are asked to pick up their dahlia orders at this time. Owned and operated by Jan and Art Jones, the garden will be open Thursday-Saturday through May 5.
