Get Microsoft certification at local library

The North Olympic Library System, in partnership with the Washington State Library, is offering free multiple testing sessions for Microsoft Office Specialist and Microsoft Technology Associate certification exams.
Market values for such exams are typically between $99-$130 per exam, library officials say, and that those with the certification can boost an entry-level business employee as much as $16,000 in annual salary than uncertified peers.
Tests are held at the following library locations and times:
• 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29 — Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.
• Noon-2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 — Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
• 5-7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19 — Port Angeles Library
• Noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 — Forks Library, 171 S. Forks Ave.
• 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10 — Port Angeles Library
Limited space is available and registration is required at www.nols.org/events.
Multiple one-hour sessions are available at each testing, but it is only possible to take one exam per session (test-takers have 50 minutes to complete each exam). Those who wish to take multiple exams are asked to register for multiple sessions.
Those unable to attend one of the designated testing sessions are asked to email to ehelp@nols.org to schedule an individual testing appointment with library staff.
NOLS provides free access to Lynda.com — a leading online learning platform — which can be used to prepare for Microsoft Certification Exams. Lynda.com’s library of courses and instructional videos can be accessed with a library card from any device with an internet connection.
Many courses also feature exercise files. For example, while watching a tutorial about Microsoft Excel, users can follow the activity with downloadable, pre-populated Excel spreadsheet files. To get started, visit www.nols.org and click on “Online Resources” and then “Online Classes.”
