With the goal of making community connections, Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County’s Rally in the Alley drew quite a crowd on April 27.

The Rally helps city residents dispose of unwanted items for no cost. Saturday’s rally was originally slated for February but was postponed because of inclement weather.

“The goal (for the project) was about revitalization: How do we … let people know that Habitat for Humanity is not just about building homes?” executive director Colleen Robinson said Saturday.

The intention to do the Rally in the Alley quarterly in four city quadrants, in part to connect with residents in each part of the city. Some took the announcement as a citywide or even countywide service.

“If this one isn’t in your (quadrant), one is coming,” Robinson said.

Despite the confusion, Robinson said the projects is a fruitful one with Habitat paying for the dumpster usage and City of Sequim paying for dumping fees.

“It’s such a win-win for everybody,” Robinson said. “Habitat loves partnering with the city.”
