Register to vote for primary by July 29

More than 50,000 ballots are out across Clallam County including Sequim.

Clallam County Auditor Shoona Riggs’ staff mailed ballots out July 17 for the Tuesday, Aug. 6, Primary Election.

Those not registered to vote in Washington have through Monday, July 29 to register online at clallam.net/Auditor/RegistertoVote.html, by mail, or until 8 p.m. August 6 to register in person at the Auditor’s Office to participate in the Primary at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, or returned to a ballot drop box by 8 p.m. that day. Ballot drop-off options in the Sequim area include 24-hour ballot boxes at:

• Carlsborg, 261461 US Hwy. 101, near Sunny Farms, adjacent to Mill Road

• Sequim, 651 W. Washington St., near JCPenney

• Port Angeles, 223 E. Fourth St. with three drop boxes at the Clallam County Courthouse’s circular drive, directly across from the disabled parking, and inside the Auditor’s Office

For voters returning ballots by mail, prepaid postage has been provided on the return envelope.

An accessible voting unit is available at the Auditor’s Office to assist voters with disabilities in voting independently. Regular business hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, with extended Election Day hours of 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

Riggs said the purpose of the Primary is to allow voters to narrow candidate races down to two candidates for the General Election in November.

In the Sequim area, voters will decide between Incumbent Mark Ozias or Brandon Janisse for Clallam County Commissioner No. 1, and Warren Pierce, Ann Marie Henninger, and Nate Adkisson for Hospital District 2 Commissioner No. 1, Position No. 1.

Election information and an Online Voters’ Guide featuring all candidate races are available on the Clallam County Elections website at www.clallam.net/elections. Printed voting guides are not produced for Primaries.
