Family Fun times 600

Fundraising goal met for school activities and equipment

Excited students ran the halls with parents in tow for Helen Haller Elementary’s Family Fun Night on Feb. 4.

Children got their faces painted by clowns, sang karaoke, spun the “Wheel of Fortune,” played in a bounce house and more for the annual event.

Jamee Metzger, a parent volunteer for the Parent Teacher Organization estimate at least 600 people attended and they met their fundraising goal.

“We definitely couldn’t have done this without the community and their support,” Metzger said.

Ticket sales for games and auction items, including bicycles and an X-Box 360, help pay for programs like the Cougar writing conference, which brings in authors; second-grade swimming lessons; science lessons with special seminars; supplies for classrooms; and equipment for physical education classes.

Last year, money went toward the school cafeteria’s big screen and sound system.

The family event was held on Saturday in 2009 and 2010 before switching back to the evening this year.
