A kind of graduation parade unlike any other for Sequim High, staff and school boosters gave some cheer to the SHS Class of 2020 as they handed out caps and gowns on Monday, May 4.

Donning protective masks and signs decked out in purple and gold, SHS staffers shared smiles and brief conversations with the Sequim 12th-graders, who have been out of school since mid-March after Gov. Jay Inslee temporarily suspended school activities throughout the state and weeks later canceled the duration of the 2019-2020 school year.

A Sequim High School graduation ceremony slated for early June will not take place, Sequim schools superintendent Rob Clark said, and other annual senior-focused events — Scholarship Night, Senior Recognition pep assembly, Decision Day — are likewise cancelled. However, administrators are looking for ways to honor the approximate 200-plus member senior class for their years of school work.
