Sequim Arts juried show brings big talent

Sequim Arts’ 34th annual juried art show and sale on May 6-9 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church brought in hundreds of people, organizers said.

The show hosted art ranging from oil to mixed media to sculpture.

Jake Seniuk, juror for the show and director of Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, selected 88 pieces from 413 entries.

“The mandate here is not only to pick the best work but to pick works that have some collective resonance,” Seniuk said.

Entries were local, from across the U.S. and from as far as South Korea.

Best in show went to David McCrae of Seattle for his photographs “Unpacking: Portrait #8;” second place went to D. Wynne Nixon of Gig Harbor for her oil painting “Hard-boiled Lemon and Egg Squeezer;” and third place went to Kipyung Kong of South Korea for his oil painting “Mt. Jiri 3-8.”

Sequim Arts, a nonprofit arts organization, has provided an avenue for artists through activities and programs since 1969. Its next meetings are at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays May 27 and June 24, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. Members meet only on the fourth Thursday in September-June.
