Sequim schools host kindergarten registration

The 2015-2016 school year isn’t complete but the Sequim School District is prepping its youngest students-to-be for next fall.

The district hosts kindergarten registration events at Sequim’s two elementary schools on Monday, May 2.

The Sequim School District offers an all-day kindergarten program; students need to be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 to attend kindergarten in the fall of 2016.

For registration, parents/legal guardians should bring the student’s passport or a certified copy of a birth certificate as well as a record of immunization dates and proof of residency.

Acceptable forms of proof of residency include rent/lease agreements or a current bill with your physical address listed. An immunization form must be completely filled out and signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Enrollment and registration information may be found on the district website (www.sequim.k12.wa.us) under “Our District.”

Which school?

The district determines which elementary school — Greywolf in Carlsborg and Helen Haller near downtown Sequim — students attend by where they reside. A map showing the school boundaries is posted on the district’s website at www.sequim.k12.wa.us, under the link, “Our District,” then “Schools,” then “Elementary School Boundary Line.” Note that Seventh Avenue is the dividing line between Helen Haller and Greywolf attendance areas.

Those students who live west of the dividing line need to register for Greywolf; otherwise, register for Helen Haller.

About kindergarten registration events

Helen Haller Elementary School, 350 W. Fir St., holds a kindergarten registration event from 4-6:30 p.m., May 2. Students go through a brief screening process with kindergarten staff and visit a kindergarten classroom while parents complete paperwork in the library. Greywolf Elementary School, 171 Carlsborg Road, holds a kindergarten registration event from 4-5:30 p.m., May 2. Students go through a brief screening process with kindergarten staff while parents complete paperwork in the gymnasium.
