Sequim Gazette photo by Matthew Nash/ Freshman Dana Carlile, left, and senior Kariya Johnson will both play the title character from May 6-21 in Sequim High School’s operetta “Emma: A Pop Musical” as many actors will play different parts due to upcoming sport schedules. This will also be the school’s first operetta since “Legally Blonde” in May 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sequim High’s Operetta returns with catchy tunes, fun dance routines and a classic story this May with “Emma: A Pop Musical.”

Opening night is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, in the Sequim High School Auditorium, 633 N. Sequim Ave.

Shows run at 2 p.m. Saturdays, May 7, 14 and 21; and 7 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays, May 13-14, 20-21.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students at the door with limited seating.

Two Emmas — Kariya Johnson and Dana Carlile — take the stage throughout the three-weekend run as different actors take lead roles as sports schedules conflict later in the month

“We’re happy to bring it back,” Johnson said of the operetta. “We’re hoping it’ll jump start interest.”

Tia Stephens directs with choreography by Naomi Alstrup, Kyra Humphrey serving as music director and Rebecca Chen producing. For more information, email to operettashs@gmail.com.
