Sequim Sunrise Rotary club members helped plant several natural species of flora in one of the new garden beds on April 22 at the Dungeness River Nature Center to celebrate Earth Day.
In several years the garden bed will be full of lush Oregon grape, red flowering currant, western red cedar, ocean spray and osier dogwood.
Organizers said the event continued a relationship with the center as the club donated the funds to install bird-proof windows throughout the center, which was crucial for an approved Audubon building and nature center.
“The environment has become a very important area of service for rotary and we were committed to doing something for our community on Earth Day,” longtime club member Patricia McCauley said.
The Sequim Sunrise Rotary holds weekly club meetings in the Nature Center’s meeting room at 7 a.m. each Friday at 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.
