Learn all about dahlias at the Sequim Botanical Garden Society’s “Work to Learn” party at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Terrace Garden at Carrie Blake Community Park, 500 N. Blake Ave.

The dahlias so many people have loved photographing this summer and fall at the garden will be dug up and divided by Garden volunteers and interested visitors at the society’s final “Work to Learn” party of the season.

Volunteers John Hassel and Lee Bowen will explain the process of digging dahlias, and talk about the different steps involved. Attendees are encouraged to work alongside other volunteers to remove the tubers from the ground, hose the dirt off them, and then learn the secret to dividing viable tubers that, after storing over the winter, can be planted to bloom next summer.

To work with the volunteers, wear waterproof boots and warm clothes, and bring sharp clippers and gloves.

The same day, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., those interested can pay a donation for pre-ordered peonies by cash or check, and take them home. The Peony Pick Up will take place in the Garden on the top terrace. If unable to attend the Oct. 29 pick-up, come by the garden between 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, when the Peony Team will be digging and bagging the pre-ordered plants, or contact Ashley Reddicks at daisedash@gmail.com to set up a meeting time and place.
