PC women’s soccer earns exhibition win

The Peninsula College women’s soccer squad played its final game of the 2022-23 season with a 5-3 exhibition win over S. Martin’s on the Pirates’ home turf in Port Angeles on April 22.

PC got four consecutive goals by former PA High star Millie Long, and an early second half goal by Bri Tanaka to jump out to a 5-0 lead.

Equestrians set exhibition

The Sequim Equestrian Team hosts its end-of-the-year exhibition from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, May 8, at Freedom Farms, 493 Spring Road, Port Angeles.

The event is free and open to the public. Riders entering grades 9-12 in particular are encouraged to attend.

SHS hoops stars pick Peninsula College

Sequim High senior Hannah Bates and Jelissa Julmist, All-Olympic League first team basketball standouts, are keeping it local next season after signing letters of intent to play at Peninsula College for the 2023-24 campaign.

Bates, who was named to the 2A state tournament second team, averaged 10.1 points, 4.8 assists and 3.2 steals per game during the regular season and 10.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and three steals per game during the state tourney. Bates didn’t miss any of Sequim’s 26 games, finishing with a 3.6-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Julmist averaged 12.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and three assists per game in the regular season and set a 2A state tourney (post-2017) record with 51 rebounds. She also led the team with 37 blocks.

The pair helped the Wolves to a 14-0 record in league, a second-place finish at the District 2/3 tournament, a fourth-place finish at the state 2A tournament and a 23-4 overall record.

Auburn golfer gets ace at The Cedars

Ronald P. Manuel of Auburn sank his second-career hole-in-one last week at The Cedars at Dungeness.

Manuel used a wedge to ace the 95-foot hole No. 11 at The Cedars at Dungeness on April 21.

Pirates to host 3-on-3 hoops tourney

Peninsula College will host the Pirate 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on May 20-21.

There will be an adult male bracket for players who are out of high school and older; a high school male bracket and a women’s bracket for high school-age and older players.

Each bracket will have an eight-team maximum.

Four games are guaranteed — three games of round robin play on May 20 to provide seeding for single elimination tournament play on May 21.

Format will be Spokane Hoopfest rules with 25-minute games or the first team to 20 points using one and two-point baskets is the winner.

Teams must have a minimum of four players and can have a maximum of five.

The cost is $120 and there will be T-shirts for bracket winners.
