As Sequim celebrates all things irrigation in mid-May, home gardeners can learn the use of drip irrigation to water plants during the dry summer months at the Sequim Botanical Garden Society’s “Work to Learn” party set for 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Sequim Botanical Garden Terrace Garden.
Join Dona Brock at the garden — located in the Water Reuse Demonstration Park near the bandshell at Carrie Blake Community Park — as she explains principles, design, materials and installation of the existing irrigation system using City of Sequim reuse water.
Brock and her husband retired in Sequim 20 years ago and spent almost 10 years as Master Gardeners. Coming from the scientific and software technology world, she had to teach herself how to install drip on their 1-acre property, so she knows it is hard to get started.
The 19-year-old drip irrigation system she installed is still working, with some small adjustments for aging of the garden and new features.
The Sequim Botanical Garden Society is a volunteer partner with the City of Sequim and a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides information and demonstrations of what can be done in home gardening with research-based horticultural practices.
