Friends of Library sale set
Friends of the Sequim Library host its next sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Rock Plaza, 10191 Old Olympic Hwy, Sequim, with the annex open at 9 a.m.
Featured specials include Christmas themed books, giftables, first editions including some signed, quilting and knitting books, construction and tractors books, puzzles, and laminated wall maps.
Books will be $1 per bag in the Annex starting at noon.

Free state park days announced for 2025
Staff with the Washington State Discover Pass Program recently announced 12 Discover Pass free days for 2025 when visitors won’t need a Discover Pass to park a vehicle at a Washington state park or on lands managed by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).
The 2025 Discover Pass free days are:

• Monday, Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
• Sunday, March 9, Billy Frank Jr.’s Birthday
• Wednesday, March 19, State Parks’ 111th Birthday

The Discover Pass is required to park on state lands managed by Parks, DNR and WDFW with more information at parks.state.wa.us.
Draft available for county’s Hazard Mitigation Plan
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office — Emergency Management Division looks to update the county’s Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, a federally approved plan that examines the vulnerable hazards faced in the area and identifies ideas on projects to prepare and mitigate the danger to the community and perhaps reduce damage to infrastructure.
A draft of the Hazard Mitigation Plan is available for review and comment at https://www.clallamcountywa.gov/1822/Hazard-Mitigation-Plan-Update. Comments are open until Dec. 31.
Staff said the plan helps entities received funding to help mitigate for disasters, the county receive Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding in the event of a disaster, and lays a plan down on paper as to what should be done in the event of an emergency.
Polar Bear Dip readied for Jan. 1
Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County invites the community to the 37th annual Polar Bear Dip at Hollywood Beach in Port Angeles at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan.1, an event started by volunteer Dan Welden to help raise funds for the organization.
Hot drinks, tasty muffins, a crackling fire, and participation certificates will be available.
Participants can donate online at volunteerhospice.org, at the event, or at VHOCC’s offices at 829 E. 8th St., Port Angeles.

Local office open to help disabled veterans
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) office at the Sequim Museum & Arts administration building at 544 N. Sequim Ave., is open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Wednesday to serve veterans who are needing help with claims or other information.
Services are free and veterans do not have to be members of DAV to receive assistance. The office is by walk-in; no appointment is necessary.
