A-counting the lights they go

Sandy Deckman hit the light on the socket Friday, Nov. 23, at the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

She guessed that the noble fir located at the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street held 2,663 lights: The tree actually holds 2,700.

Organizers said Deckman was one of only a few to guess more than 2,000 lights.

“All my family thought I guessed way more than that, so I told my grandkids that if I won I’d split it between them,” she said.

Deckman won a $100 gift card donated by Shawnna Rigg, real estate broker with Re/Max Fifth Avenue, and plans to share it with her grandchildren, ages 3, 5 and 15.

The Christmas tree was donated by Lazy J Tree Farm.
