McAleer to speak at Yacht Club

Colleen McAleer, District 1 commissioner for the Port of Port Angeles, will speak at Sequim Bay Yacht Club at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14.

Among topics addressed by McAleer may be what’s new at John Wayne Marina, such as the boat launch and the fueling system.

McAleer has served as a Port commissioner since January 2014. She previously was the Port’s marketing and property manager and its director of business development.

Battery systems will be discussed by Christian Hawk of Hawk Diesel, which provides marine services in Sequim and Port Angeles.

Sequim Bay Yacht Club general meeting presentations are open to the public at no charge. They are held in the Hendricks Room of the John Wayne Marina building, 2577 West Sequim Bay Road.

Chamber lunches

The Sequim Irrigation Festival sponsored April’s chamber luncheon, held at Sunland Golf Club. All four members of this year’s Irrigation Royalty served as greeters.

The speaker was Jim Stoffer, president for the Shiso Sister City organization. The organization has maintained ties with Shiso since the early 1990s and is working to re-start the student exchange. Currently, they are planning to host a group of Shiso dignitaries this fall, and hope to travel to Shiso as a group in the coming year.

Monthly luncheons are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month and feature different sponsors and speakers. In May, the chamber is scheduled to hear from the Sequim Lavender Growers Association about the 2025 Lavender Festival and from City Manager Matt Huish about the results of the city’s 2025 Business Survey.

Members of month

At their monthly board meetings, members of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors vote to determine a Member of the Month. Chamber staff then work to schedule the delivery of the award so the business or organization can have their staff, volunteers and supporters present when the certificate is delivered, along with a small gift of appreciation.

Chamber staff recently delivered awards to Sequim Sunrise Rotary, January’s Member of the Month, and to Dungeness Kids, named Member of the Month for March.
