Hansen, Houghton featured at Fourth Friday readings

The public is invited to arrive at 6 p.m. for a seat and a special-brewed coffee drink at Rainshadow Coffee Bar, 157 W. Cedar St. in Sequim.

The readings begin at 6:30 p.m. There is no fee for this event.

Hansen writes short stories, lyrical essays, poetry and narrative non-fiction. Arriving in Sequim in 2003, after a long career in hi-tech marketing in the Silicon Valley, Hansen enjoys being an active member of the Newcomers’ Club and chairman for Olympic Theatre Arts.

Being the eldest of seven sisters, she has plenty of experience negotiating – a skill that currently comes in handy as a realtor with Windermere. In addition to her passion for writing, she is an avid movie aficionado.

Houghton has written song lyrics and poetry since the 1960s. He has been published in several publications including Peninsula College’s Tidepools. He has written hundreds of poems and is considering publishing a collection.

From Southern California to Vietnam to Sequim, Houghton has traveled independently since the age of 16. He’s trained birds of prey for falconry, was a sporting dog trainer, a surfer, hot rod guy, aircraft mechanic and for the past 25 years has developed a new breed of terrier — the Northwest Farm Terrier.

Fourth Friday Readings include an hour of open-mike readings. Writers are encouraged to rehearse in advance as each writer is given five minutes to read. Sign in at the door.

Names are drawn for the order of readings. Come early. Readings begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8 p.m.
