These local students aren’t just ready to join the workforce; they’re already on the job.

Representatives of the Sequim Sunrise Rotary’s Vocational Committee on Nov. 13 honored several Sequim High School students in the career and technical education (CTE) fields and their employers for earning “workforce training” time in the automotive/mechanical/welding fields over the summer.

“Utilizing their CTE education beyond the classroom and into real world experience is a huge benefit to our community and the future of these students,” Rotary representatives said.

Students, under the supervision of CTE instructor Kevin Phillips, included: Maximus Brook, who works at Thomas Building Center at the Stihl shop doing assembly and minor repairs; Tristan Carson, who works at his uncle’s shop, Vern’s Garage in Carlsborg; Hunter Halverson, who works at his father’s D Weld shop doing welding and fabrication along with vehicle and equipment repairs; Andrew Johnson and Aaron Wallen, who work at Price Ford; Conner McCullough, who works for Bekkavar Logging & Trucking; Galaxy Murray, who works at Les Schwab Tires; Austin Parker, who works at Clallam Co-Op where part of his job includes assembling products, and Riley Smith, who recently started work at Hermann Brothers.
